I may be a borderline YouTube addict, but it's not all bad. Often enough I find stories that I want to share with my students and anyone else who will pay attention to me. The story I am currently obsessed with is that of Sister Cristina Scuccia, who is a member of the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family. In March she appeared on Italy's version of 'The Voice,' where she sang Alicia Keys' song "No One" as part of her blind audition. When the judges turned around, they were completely shocked, but in the end they all wanted her as a part of their team. There is something about her that they were attracted to and moved by, even though they seemed to have no way of describing it other than as "energy." To check out the video click here (you'll want to turn on the CC in English to get the full effect). Praise God that Sister Cristina took full advantage of such an opportunity to evangelize!
The first video piqued my curiosity, so I began watching other videos where she battled other singers. The other women she battled are successful in presenting themselves in way that common culture would respond positively to, but in each battle, her coach, J-Ax ended up choosing her.
In watching these videos, all I could think of was the quote from Blessed Mother Teresa, "Joy is a net of love in which you can catch souls," because that is exactly what's happening. People are falling in love with Sister Cristina because of the joy she radiates, which comes from her closeness to Christ. True joy is something that cannot be faked. It's something that shows in how we carry ourselves, how we speak, how we interact with others, how we love. While people definitely love Sister Cristina for her talent and energy, I think it goes much deeper than that. We are all attracted to the authentic, pure joy that God alone can give.
As an Easter People, we are called to share in that same joy that can only come from Christ. He desires that our joy be complete(John 15:11)!!! Let us spend this Easter season focused on and celebrating the Risen Christ and praying that a resurrection(of faith, hope, joy, confidence, peace, whatever it may be that we need) may happen within each of us. Know of my prayers for all of you!
