I never know what we're going to talk about - Winnie the Pooh, stringed cheese, Elsa and Anna. Sometimes my 18-month-old nephew gets a hold of the phone and just runs around wildly with me [the phone] in his hand, bouncing along with him. Other times I’m propped next to my niece who is chattering on about the oh-so-important happenings of a 3-year-old.
Regardless of what experience might be waiting for me, when it comes I'm never disappointed, because I'm spending time with people that bring me joy and love! I got to thinking …. How cool would it be to dial up Jesus on FaceTime and chat it up?
And then it hit me ...
“CONNECTING” WITH CHRIST
How lucky we are as Catholics to have an opportunity to FaceTime WITH JESUS whenever we want - at Mass or in Adoration!!! I mean, Christ literally comes into the room with us in the Eucharist!
As we approach Holy Week, I am reminded of Jesus’ request for fellowship of His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. As He goes to pray during this dark hour, He simply asks Peter and the two sons of Zebedee to, “Remain here and keep watch with me.” (Matthew 26:38b) Unfortunately, they fall asleep not just once or twice, but three times! Jesus, saddened, asks them, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?” (Matthew 26:40b)
I’m so quick to judge these three for falling asleep in the presence of Christ Himself. I mean Jesus personally asked them to hang out with Him. Those bozos just had to stay awake, for crying out loud! But then [face-palm] I realize that I am so guilty of that myself. I picture Jesus with His iPad in front of Him, having dialed my number, just waiting to see “Connecting…” on His screen, knowing that I was finally answering His call to spend some FaceTime with Him.
Carve out some time to simply “remain with Jesus.” And know that, regardless of what experience might be waiting for you, when you spend time with Jesus, you’ll never be disappointed, because you’re spending time with JOY and LOVE Himself.
